FAQ's

Straight forward questions, answers and information to consider:

Your Perceptions or Beliefs about Counselling – You may be unsure of what goes on in a counselling session, or how you may feel when you attend.

Answer – Most people are unsure of what to expect when they approach something new or different. This is made true more often if they have heard negative things or have had a past negative experience. Please call or e-mail me and I will be pleased to discuss what to expect before you make an appointment.

I offer a straightforward, no pressure, and no obligation approach. As a routine part of my practice, I offer an opportunity to take some assessments online, so you can determine for yourself if you “need” assistance, and where you may be able to benefit.

We can discuss your assessment results on the phone, via e-mail or in person and determine what will be best for your future. As time permits, I will offer you an initial treatment plan for your consideration.

Of course if you prefer, you can just skip the initial online assessment and we can get right to work on resolving root causes of problems, issues and concerns you came with and want to leave without.

The choice is up to you.

Past Experiences and Perceptions about Counselling - You may have had a friend or heard about someone who went to counselling and had a negative experience. Perhaps you have tried counselling before and it didn’t work out as expected.

Answer – There are many possible reasons why counseling may not have worked out for yourself or others in the past. There may be reasons why it may not be a good fit for you now as well. I invite you to contact me to discuss your concerns and avoid repeating past mistakes.

I need to know if  counselling will help me with my unique circumstance, situation, issue or problem

Answer – Another excellent question. According to Steve Zaffron & Dave Logan in their book The Three Laws of Performance, 73 % of efforts at change fail and 70 % of new strategies fall short of expectations

There are many reasons why most attempts at change fail. I would be pleased to assist you in planning to succeed instead of being part of a dismal statistic. I don't know for sure if what we do together will help you, guaranteed. I do know if you do nothing, your life will carry on the way it always has, with predictable outcomes similar to what you have already experienced.

I have observed with people I have treated using well prepared and thorough treatment plans combined that effective skills and tools bring great results.

Cost and Value – Yes, counselling may be considered by some to be “expensive” or “unaffordable”.

Answer - I place a high value on you and our opportunity for your life. I welcome the opportunity to discuss how effective counselling compares to alternatives. I work hard to provide good value at every opportunity and I invite you to “shop and compare” before you book with me.  By shopping and comparing you will come prepared to understand the true value which I can represent to you. Please experience the difference for yourself.

Bottom line is this: “Let’s talk about your situation and what can be done for you.”

Insurance / EFAP -

I accept referrals from some Insurance (workplace benefit) plans and EFAP people. I would be pleased to discuss this with you over the phone or by e-mail before you make your first appointment.

Location

We are located in a private and discrete home office, in Cloverdale. I am central to people from Surrey, Delta, White Rock, Langley, Aldergrove and Abbotsford

I also offer distance coaching via e-mail and telephone to people across Canada and in International locations.  People who travel and/or have busy lives have reported that the practice flexibility between appointments with e-mail and telephone contact was exceptionally helpful.

Hours for Appointments

Our office is open extended hours. I am available for appointments during week days and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Extended hours allow us to make room for one or two new clients each week, and so urgent cases can be seen as soon as possible.
